South Acres / Crestmont Park

The South Acres/Crestmont park area is a semi-suburban neighborhood bordered on the east by Highway 288 and at the North by Sims Bayou. The most recent population numbers in the neighborhood state that 31,550 souls live here. The neighborhood to the east of here is known as Minnetex. When it comes to shopping in South Acres/Crestmont Park, there are no major indoor malls, but Cullen Commons Shopping Center does have some highlights, including a Metro PCS Store, a Boost Mobile Store and of course a Sno City Shaved Ice for keeping it real cool in the summertime.  Outside of that, retailers tend to be of the stand alone or strip mall-style, with some notables such as Watkins Groceries Store, Apache Auto Parts, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Crestmont Park Supermarket on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The neighborhood also includes Cloverland, which was the home of popular Houston rapper, Lil’ Flip. If you’re looking to eat out while in South Acres/Crestmont park, you’ll want to look in such establishments as Cassy’s Kitchen on Mowery Road, Tammy Chin Chicken N Seafood on Martin Luther King Blvd, Mr. B’s Grub Shack on Allison Road, or you may want to look into Mima’s Taqueria y Azadero on Almeda Genoa Road if Mexican food is what you’re looking for.

Interesting places to go where you can get a bit of that Houston outdoor time include the Cullen Cricket Ground, the Hill at Sims Greenway Hike Bike Trail, Crestmont Park and Community Center, and Schnur Park.

Owing to the fact that the neighborhood is a rural/suburban combo, there is of course a lot of residential area. As such there is a large amount of schools and churches in the area, including Law Elementary School, Codwell Elementary School, Albert Thomas Middle School and Kipp Sunnyside High School. Some fine religious establishments include the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, the Grace Congregational Church and the First Church Of Christ Holness on South Acres Drive.

While the South Acres/Crestmont Park area does not include the William P Hobby Airport in the neighborhood, it is a very short drive to Houston’s major airport, cutting through Minnetex by way of Airport Blvd.

So, let’s say we decide to pick up a few items at the Crestmonth Park Supermarket, and then roll to Schnur Park for a bit of outdoor eating.

Good times always, but it’s time to quench our thirst at the Daiquiri Shack, which is located in the Cullen Commons Shopping Center.

Next, we’ll pick up a part for the car at Apache Auto Parts.

And finally, we’ll head back to the office of Air Check Mechanical Service.
